Flint Ingredient Company seeks an, entrepreneurial, adaptive Assistant Farm Manager. This seasonal position will run from March 15, 2016 to November, 15, 2016.
About Us: Flint Ingredient Company is a 4-year-old, 9-acre farm in Beecher, Mi using non-certified organic methods. The farm works closely with its sister company The Local Grocer to supply produce to its full service grocery store, farm to table Kitchen and Flint Farmers’ Market store.
Position Description: Assistant Farm Manager will manage and oversee Flint Ingredient Company’s CSA operations, and will be responsible for fulfilling the CSA Shares. This position will also assist in growing produce for the store and market. Assistant Farm Manager will work closely with the Farm Manager to fine tune the farm plan, offering ideas and revisions, and will be responsible for its execution in regards to the CSA, producing a variety of vegetables and herbs for distribution. Farming responsibilities include standard operations: overseeing seedling production, as well as seed propagation on site during mid-season, weed, pest and disease control, cover cropping, planting and cultivation, irrigation management, harvesting, washing and packing food for the shares.
This individual should be someone who has at least 2 year experience farming, experience working with a small staff, and is someone who genuinely enjoys engaging with people of all ages. The Assistant Farm Manager reports directly the Farm Manager.
The ideal candidate should have the ability to work at an effective pace in harvesting, accept and integrate instructions and feedback, and take a proactive role in asking for guidance when it comes to farm specific practices.
This is a demanding position during peak season, and requires a “do whatever it takes” personality that can contribute a positive attitude to the team on long days in any weather conditions.
You must be flexible (in schedule and attitude), pay attention to details and contribute to the farm’s overall growth.
The position is seasonal. The pay rate is negotiable based on experience.
