today in guyana – the dress codes stops vulgarity & remember to beat ‘your’ woman

it was a lovely day in many respects
more than english can deal with right now but will focus on two low lights that i gotta mention
the english is somewhat there
i was at the Cuffy250 Fourth Annual State of the African Guyanese Forum @ Critchlow Labour College
fishbone in the throat cush was there hovering about the periphery with his coterie

i struck up a discussion/poll with some friends about the dress code
all were in agreement that we were an ancient land going to extremes upholding colonial foolishness
examples were offered
the court police and a magistrate still on the bench once told me that my dashiki was too bright and i should not wear it to court again. colours too bright!
which of course impinges on his ability to do his job on the bench properly
out comes a rastaman and a big one at dat
you supporting in vulgarity!

last days of dress code in Guyana

A post shared by Mark Jacobs Guyana 🙂 (@emarkjacobs) on

ok let’s try this again from the top
you don’t think the dress code is foolishness
foolishness?!!! you gotta have a dress code
why?
a little louder he replies, you gotta have a dress code
why?
and even louder still, you gotta have a dress code
ok i hear you but why?
why? why? why?
he pauses for half a split second then increases the decibel a lil more, you gotta have a dress code!
talking is one thing. listening is another thing. listening with comprehension is a motherfucker
a gentleman in the original conversation tried to help me out
ok, he is asking you why do you support the dress code
not to be outdone, rastaman reinforces his original point, you gotta have a dress code
to say this was getting beyond the ridiculo is to say nothing

eze rockliffe from yoruba singers came out and asked, so what if a man showed up in he bucktuh? (that’s underwear non.guyanese and overseas guyanese not in the loop)
bucktuh?!! who walks around in their bucktuh?
we brought eze back in line
rastaman still ranting and raving about me supporting vulgarity
aye aye rastaman deh pon yuh ites yeh. you supporting vulgarity. you gotta have a dress code!
the end
or what i thought was the end
this shit went on for a lil while more as he popped in and out of the conference each time out the door giving me the evil eye and blazing me up

act two
you gotta beat your woman

i don’t know what was going on inside but rastaman rush back out to me
dey is a difference between abuse and discipline?
what you mean?
dey is a difference between abuse and discipline?
a lotta Black people and maybe others too have a tendency of repeating the original when asked to clarify
well in the english language there is yes, i suppose
dey is a difference between abuse and discipline?
i kinda sense what he was hinting at. don’t ask me how but i suddenly did
you talking about children or women?
i asking if dey is a difference between abuse and discipline?
no. all two is the same to me
you deh pon scunt. is bare scunt you deh pon. rastaman know you fucking self yeh
i don’t believe in beating no woman
so who de scunt gon discipline dem? joe grind and rock back george?
what? joe grind and rock back george? what the fuck are you talking about man?
ah seh who gon discipline dem? joe grind and rock back george?
i start to repeat m’sef now, i don’t began believe in beating no woman
rastaman let loose with a vicious attack towards me and rush back inside but as soon as i thought he was done with me he came back out and start again
listen, if you and a woman cant come to some understanding verbally, you galand yuh way and leh she galang she way. i don’t see why you gotta beat her
you have to discipline dem. i name israel and is a man of the bible. don’t tell me scunt. man got laws to uphold
my mind began fading in and out and my auditory system began to short circuit
i really couldn’t believe the scunt i was hearing from a big man
i told a couple people who just shook their heads in disgust
he kept popping in and out and meandering from dress code to beating women as he launched his attacks against me
a hefty looking woman came out during one of his tirades and i walked over to her
he believe in beating women
i pointed him out
she gave him a good look over and a suck teeth
he ain reach the right woman. i’d murder he. no man ain knocking me

it was a lovely day in many respects
more than english can deal with right now but will focus on two low lights that i gotta mention
the english is somewhat there

by the way this is not the first time i’ve heard this cromagnum woman beating foolishness
but it may be the first time i was taken to task disagreeing with it
normally women beaters hang their head in shame or silence when they hear i don’t believe the shit am being told
and move on
this chap was anything but normal

rastaman came back one last time and bought a few items from the table and left. maybe his conscience was bothering him
maybe
one could wish

an interesting note completely unrelated
some women question your manhood for not having children
on the other hand some men also question your manhood, sanity & loyalty to the Black Nation
you heard me right, & loyalty to the Black Nation 🙂 for not having children

to all you beasts out there beating your woman
i hope she finds the inspiration or assistance in murdering you one day
and am not being rhetorical

run tell dat
