ONE OF GUYANA’S TOP MUSICIANS GONE TO “ZION”
One of the greatest musicians and one of the most powerful souls on this planet transitioned from this realm on Wednesday, August 2 in Toronto! Guyanese Iauwata Amha Selassie M.D. (christened as Keith Paul of D’Urban Street, Wortmanville) was a master musician, devoted Rastafarian leader, a father, brother, friend, teacher, mentor and more!
Ras Iauwata Amha Selassie – Lead vocal singer, multi-talented instrumentalist and composer has gone home to the “musical Zion” and has been well-received by his peers. He did a glorious mission of spreading a highly-spiritualized form of cultural reggae music.
He pioneered the original “GT BOOM” sound and his seminal piece of work – “One People, One Nation, One Destiny” will live on. Iauwata Amha Selassie was a Rastafari musical icon in Canada, from Guyana yet a global citizen who played music on all corners of the planet.
His personality was warm with a genuine smile and love for everyone. There are hundreds of musicians worldwide that he either worked with or taught how to sing or to play a musical instrument, or produced a song or an album or performed with them. His loving, musical genius is evident in the words and the faces of those who knew him.
He wasn’t just a calming force, he was also a fire blazing, Nyabinghi warrior who spoke blatant and sometimes uncomfortable truths; but with him one felt that his objective was “the truth” with no ulterior motives.
Many globally will mourn this great reggae soldier who has been called to an even higher purpose now! Ras Iauwata’s memory, influence, music, name and energy will live on forever! Blessed journey Iauwata. May de I continue to live on in music. “One bright morning, when I work is over, I shall fly away home!”
REST IN POWER RASTAMAN! GIVE THANKS FOR THE GREAT CONTRIBUTION TO JAH MUSIC…THE GATES OF ZION ARE OPEN WIDE TO DE I! ONE LOVE! JAH LIVES!

“The basic confrontation which seemed to be colonialism versus anti-colonialism, indeed capitalism versus socialism, is already losing its importance. What matters today, the issue which blocks the horizon, is the need for a redistribution of wealth. Humanity will have to address this question, no matter how devastating the consequences may be.” ― Frantz Fanon, The Wretched of the Earth
